Gaussia_Luciferase
Gaussia luciferase (Gluc) is a 20 kDa protein derived from the marine copepod Gaussia princeps. This bioluminescent enzyme is secreted extensively into cell culture media, enabling real-time monitoring of reporter activity in live cells. The light emitted from the luciferase reaction correlates with the quantity of Gaussia luciferase protein produced, serving as an indicator of the activity of the promoter responsible for Gaussia expression. Additionally, the signal generated by Gaussia luciferase exhibits rapid flash kinetics and is significantly stronger than the flash signals produced by firefly or Renilla luciferases under comparable conditions.
Due to the property that Gluc is naturally secreted outside of cells, it will be secreted into the serum/urine of animals in in vivo studies, allowing for easy quantification of the activity of promoter in such research.
